The Justice Department recently announced the end of the “China Initiative,” which targeted persons of Chinese ancestry in academic and research environments.  Our event will discuss its troubled history and any implications moving forward.

Our panelists include:

Brian Kelly, Partner, Nixon Peabody.  Mr. Kelly was one of the attorneys that represented Professor Gang Chen of MIT.  An article regarding Professor Chen’s case may be found here: https://www.technologyreview.com/2022/01/15/1043319/china-initative-gang-chen-mit/

Eileen Guo, Senior reporter, features and investigations at MIT Technology Review.  Ms. Guo has written extensively about the Department of Justice’s China Initiative, including about Dr. Chen’s case as linked above.

Gisela Perez Kusakawa, Assistant Director, Anti-Racial Profiling Project, Asian Americans Advancing Justice.  Ms. Kusakawa leads AAJC’s efforts to fight profiling Asian Americans.
