Committees


As a membership organization of Asian Pacific American legal professionals, APABA-DC provides a wide variety of services, programs, and events of interest to our members and to the Asian Pacific American community. APABA-DC is led by highly motivated volunteers. The following lists APABA-DC’s Programs and Committees.


EDUCATION

APABA-DC organizes continuing legal education programs to help our members and community develop professionally after their initial admission to the bar.  Events over the past year have included panels on trial tactics, the law firm partnership track, Asian American law firm managing partners, overview of the DC legal market, and responding to a corporate crisis.  APABA-DC also coordinates a group U.S. Supreme Court Bar swearing-in ceremony.  Share your ideas for educational events here.




PROGRAMS

APABA-DC organizes a variety of activities and events during the year to bring together our membership and community.  Our events have included our annual installation and awards installation gala, holiday dinner, lunar new year celebration, and summer BBQ.  Share programming suggestions with us here.


COMMUNITY AFFAIRS

APABA-DC has a long history of community service in the D.C. metro area and participates in pro bono clinics and organizes other volunteer activities for our members.  We also put on an annual reenactment of a major civil rights case affecting the Asian American community and programming on civil rights and equal justice issues of interest to our community.  Share your ideas on how we can engage our community here.

Government Attorneys Forum

APABA-DC provides substantive legal programming, career advice seminars, and social and networking opportunities, to encourage and support Asian Pacific American attorneys at all levels of the federal and local governments, cultivate an understanding of the issues facing Asian Pacific American government attorneys, promote the value of public service, increase the representation of Asian Pacific American attorneys in the government, and further their advancement. In-House Counsel Committee

APABA-DC organizes programs and events addressing matters of interest to attorneys in corporate legal departments. Contact the committee here.


Partners and Senior Counsel Committee

APABA-DC provides opportunities for law firm partners, of counsels, and senior associates with over five years of practice experience, to network and expand their professional contacts. Each year, APABA-DC organizes a panel of federal and state court judges to share their insights with the community.  Reach out to the Committee here.

Women's Forum

APABA-DC educates and informs members about issues affecting Asian Pacific American women in the legal community. It also organizes programs and provides settings in which members can come together to network and discuss women’s issues. Reach out to the forum here.


Working Parents Forum

APABA-DC organizes informal networking opportunities, social events, and programming tailored to the interests and schedules of our members with children. The Working Parents’ Group also serves as a medium for information exchange where members can discuss issues related to parenting, childcare, and other work-life balance topics. Small and Solo Firms Committee

APABA-DC provides informal networking opportunities for attorneys in solo or small firm practices. The committee provides a forum on how to start and maintain a solo/small firm practice, and for members to exchange ideas on streamlining practices and resolving ethical issues. An attorney-referral database available to members also allows those in the committee to grow their client base. Add your practice to the committee here.
