Join the APABA-DC DragonBoat Team, the Bakanawas, for fun on the water and (potential) glory! We'll be competing in the 2026 Washington DC DragonBoat Festival on Saturday, May 16, held at the Thompson Boat Center in Georgetown. A dragonboat consists of 20 paddlers, a drummer, and a steersperson (provided by the festival organizer) working in sync to make the boat fly across the water. No experience needed to join the team! We are aiming for a team of 25 so we can sub in for one another in case of last minute changes!
We'll have optional practice sessions (4/26 at 12pm-1:30pm at the Wharf and 5/10 at 12pm-1:30pm at ACBA in Anacostia) before race day so you can become familiar with the boat.
Whether you've never picked up a paddle before or you're excited at the thought of overtaking another boat, we encourage you to sign up for a wonderful team-building and networking experience. We'll provide snacks, lunch, drinks, and a team t-shirt on race day. Members: $20; Non-members: $30.
