Join APABA-DC on June 14, 2022 from 6-8 pm for an in-person discussion about United States v. Iva Toguri D’Aquino (the trial of Tokyo Rose), co-hosted by Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. The discussion will be held in an open-air conference room at Akin Gump’s Washington, D.C. office, followed by an outdoor reception with refreshments.
This in-person event builds on the momentum of APABA-DC’s Virtual Reenactment: Trial of Tokyo Rose, held during the Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The reenactment featured a cast of ten federal and state court judges in telling the story of Iva Toguri D’Aquino, a Japanese American citizen who was accused of treason for allegedly broadcasting anti-American propaganda during World War II.
Come to learn more about this legacy trial from a panel of experts on June 14. The panelists will discuss the civil rights and social justice issues through the lens of the Tokyo Rose trial nearly eight decades later, as the fight against hate, xenophobia, and anti-Asian sentiment continues to the present day.
Panelists:
Shirley Ann Higuchi (Chair, Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation)
Michele M. Mason (Japanese Program Director, University of Maryland)
